Throwing it around

It's sunday night and all is quiet on the western front. The Reds became the first sweep victim at the Washington Nationals new stadium. Football preseason starts this week. It's a good time for that. We try to light the flame for our favorite sport though while we still can.

Throwing it around

We're just a day away from the trading deadling, tomorrow night should be a fun night. We will blog trade deadline central right here at Diamond Hoggers. We remember the trades of trade deadline's past. Randy Johnson to the Astros, Mcgwire to the Cardinals, Juan Guzman to the Reds, fill in blank here to the Yankees. Have the Yankees ever been sellers at the deadline? They don't do it. Not in our lifetime.

Throwing it around

The Trading Deadline will be here in days. We don't expect too much action at this deadline, as the hype always outweighs the actuals. We just wish our team wasn't playing out the string, as they often are this time of year. We throw it around in a very business-like fashion. The show must go on.

Throwing it around

We've been slacking on the blog a bit. We've been sick as dogs. Lyme Disease is a real pain in the ass. To have it in the middle of the summer is even worse, we think. Hopefully by this time next season we feel normal again. It's saturday and here's the baseball related content that was worthy of a linky. Not long from now college football will be catching many's focus on these days.

-MLB.com's Iphone baseball application is a joke. We still want an Iphone though. [Deadspin]

Throwing it around

We like friday nights, a lot. We have to work saturdays, but it doesn't stop us from starting the weekend a day early anyway. So while this is basically our thursday, we enjoy saturday mornings because none of senior management is there anyways we're still in just as good of a mood as you are because friday night is a full schedule of baseball and all the fun awaits us. Here's the day in baseball links:

-The Yankees have signed Eric Milton to a minor league deal. Milton? Ponson? Come on. [NJ.com]
-The Phillies are talking about a couple different pitchers to trade for. [The Good Phight]

Throwing it around

The Reds lost to the Cubs. What a surprise. But there's still a lot of baseball to cover, and Cincinnati is afterall, an afterthought. We're just days from the All-Star Break. A week from yesterday 'the game's brightest stars' take the field in the Bronx to do battle for the right to home field advantage in the World Series. Our money is on the AL this season.

Throwing it around

It's mid-saturday. The day is young. The sun is shining and the glorious Reds are on. Life is pretty good right now. We ordered our 'Deal' jersey today at work. Should be here in 2-3 weeks. We're pretty excited.

Here's some links to tide you over if your team isn't playing on national television:

-If you haven't seen the Hitler Reds video, here is your chance. [Blue Collar Baseball]
-As I type this Ken Griffey Jr. hit #599, but how many would he have hit if he hadn't have been injured so much? Many, but you'd have to do this for every player then wouldn't you? Durability is part of a record like the HR Record. [The Big Lead]

Throwing it around: Jay Bruce version (what else)

Today's version of throwing it around is a special version indeed. The web and blogosphere has exploded with Jay Bruce coverage. We feel like this is a great thing; Cincinnati finally has a player who is bringing fans to the game. We do our best to link the pride of Beaumont in this version of TIA. And we promise after this, it's back to baseball coverage; thus ending the Jay Bruce honeymoon.

-We were waiting for Deadspin's take. We're glad our favorite blog likes our favorite player. [Deadspin]

Throwing it around

It's Memorial Day weekend! It's a time to be happy. Drink a few beers (or Tomato juice) and appreciate the fact that life is good. If you're not a baseball fan and you've somehow stumbled onto this site, you need to get in front of a television sometime before you go back and sit under the flourescent lights on tuesday morning and watch a couple innings. You might not like it. There's plenty of people who think that baseball sucks on television (horrifying); but we promise you that when it's said and done you'll feel more American. And damnit that's a good thing!

-This blog hasn't had enough Gary Carter mentions. If you've read The Bad Guys Won, you know Carter hasn't changed a bit. [Deadspin]

Throwing it around

The Redlegs have lost two in a row, and our fantasy team is back in 8th after a powerful resurgence had brought us back to 6th. Adam Dunn's home run streak ended at 5 straight games. You know the drill, here's what good out there about the rest of baseball.

-The Marlins signed Jacque Jones, but his role is unclear. Just tell him he's a 5th outfielder and be done with it. [Fish Stripes]

Throwing it around

It's a great sports day this sunday, as we tried to get to the ballpark but couldn't find anyone to go with us. We won't hold it against them as not everyone gets mondays off like we do. It's going to be an awesome day, we just hope that it seems to last as long as a work week day does! Enjoy the bloggages:

-Today is the 3rd time in baseball history that the two league leaders in ERA faced off, in Cliff Lee vs. Edison Volquez. And we could have seen it! [Reds Insider]
-Diamond Back fans would like to see Carlos Quentin back in left field now instead of Eric Byrnes [Arizona Sports Hub]

Throwing it around

We're up a bit late. Hope everyone had a great mother's day. We're actually headed to the ballpark tomorrow in the Queen City. Times could be better for the home team Reds, but we'll never let a night at the ballpark be a dull one. More on that later, for now we're linking what interested us on this day in baseball blog reading.

-Prince Fielder simply isn't hitting home runs as far as he did last season. Whats the mystery? [In-Between Hops]

Throwing it around

Hope you're enjoying a full night of baseball action. We haven't been to the ballpark since Opening Day. It's been a full month. We'll be there this coming monday, but it's still been too long. We're really anticipating Jay Bruce's call up so we can head to the park for his debut and then have a reason to drive 2 hours to watch Reds baseball. Ta hell with the NBA playoffs. It's baseball season. By the way, Skoal Straight has never tasted to wonderful.
